Every time I look up I see this kid getting in trouble. This morning, with what had to be his last chance, Spillman got busted for DUI, possession of marijuana and was in possession of a 25 caliber weapon. Spillman (21) was pulled over for not having his license plate properly illuminated a little after 12 a.m. this morning.
Spillman is a product of Louisville's PRP high school and the community has stuck behind him through his troubles, this is surely the last straw. Spillman was projected to start at the wide receiver position this season for the Cardinal's. Brian Bennet of the Courier Journal attempted to reach Kragthorpe for a comment but the Coach is on vacation in Mexico with his family.
There is only so many chances you can give somebody and truly believe that the person is trying to become a better human being. Spillman's trouble started in:
September, 2007:
"Wide receiver JaJuan Spillman has been indefinitely suspended from the University of Louisville football team, head coach Steve Kragthorpe said this afternoon."
Then in January, 2007:
"Spillman was arrested following a car accident near campus. According to the police report, Spillman and a passenger admitted to police that they had been smoking in the car."
Surprisingly, everyone that I have spoke with locally that has had interaction with Jujuan has always praised the young man as a person and an athlete.
Spillman caught nine passes for 64 yards last season while and rushing four times for 42 yards. He was also a special teams contributor, averaging 22.2 yards on 18 kickoff returns.
On a side note: Rick Bozich reported today that Jordan Crawford will not be realeased to play for Kentucky. Bozich mentioned Xavier as a possible destination.
Bozich also reported that former IU guard Armahn Basset will most likely wind up at UAB playing for coach Mike Davis.
