Henson is lanky kid who can bang. Henson is more of a potential kid rather than a polished player. Henson is however one of the most promising players in the class. Henson averaged 24 points, 12 rebounds and 5 blocks per game as a junior. In Jan 2008 Henson ended his recruitment, giving a verbal to UNC.

There are portions of every game that John Henson will dominate. At times with, guard play severely lacking last year, John had to create much of his offense for himself. He was a more effective offensive rebounder than defense rebounder, frequently getting tip jams and put-back dunks. A glaring weakness in his game was that he occasionally took himself out of possessions defensively by gambling and waiting out at the three point line. With rebounding already being a problem for the Dragons, they could ill-afford not having John in the paint for any reason. Plus, he is such a threat to block shots. John registered numerous triple doubles with points, rebounds, and blocks.
